Opportunities are piling up in the New Year

I'm not sure if I was just absent last year, or if I've just taken better notice of things this year.  I really don't remember so many fun things going on at the beginning of this year.  Regardless, I wanted to share another fabulous opportunity to grow as a quilter in the New Year.

Pile O' Fabric

Alyssa at Pile O' Fabric is hosting a FREE Skill Builder Block of the Month.  Sounds perfect to me: Free (Yes, I like FREE), Skill Builder (who couldn't use that?), hmm Blocks? (I could always use some more blocks to showcase on Tuesdays) - Yep, sign me up!

I will freely admit that she has stolen my, completely unrealized, idea for a beginner's quilt along.  She has 2 blocks per month planned and the hope is we will be building various piecing skills in the process.  ALSO!  We will be using the "Quilt As You Go" method for these blocks, so you get a fair amount of Free Motion Quilting practice each month as well without having to deal with a bulky quilt at the very end of the year (when we will be doing the 100 Day Hustle again, right?).  BRILLIANT!!  Seriously, looking at the blocks she has planned, there is no way I could have come up with better.

I was really disappointed with the Beginner's Quilt Along I participated in earlier in the year.  I felt like all we did was variations of HST's, and the finishing instructions STILL haven't been posted.  I know Alyssa will follow through and her blocks look fresh and fun.  She was a brilliant host for the Totally Groovy QAL, and I am really looking forward to this BOM.

Join me??  I may need a support group for all I am taking on in the New Year!  Click the link above or the button at the top left for more info.

  1. Jen-
I totally agree about the beginner's qal. I was totally new to quilting last year, had never made any of the blocks, and even I was bored of the whole thing! I may try this one along with you again, since I have been wanting to learn more fmq and piecing. This would be like killing two birds with one stone!I'm not so crazy about the design since I'm not really into the eclectic quilt look, but I guess I could either donate the quilt or alter the design slightly and turn them into place mats like you made this year. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks for the link, I think. I signed up for the BOM, wasn't going to do anything but WIP's / UFO's! So much for that New Years Resolution! Thank you for blogging!
