Hiatus - giveaway

I read somewhere that you shouldn't apologize on a blog for not posting in a while.  I suppose that could be true in some circumstances, but I also realize that my timing for a bit of silence wasn't very opportune seeing as how I was just at the end of hosting a quilt along and pattern testing for a friend.  I am sorry, especially since I plan to continue my hiatus for a bit longer while I get my act together (Building Blocks Tuesday and Inspirational Sundays will be on hold).  But before I do....

Please let me announce the winners of the One Block Wonder Quilt Along!

  • Marci's beautiful quilt won the Viewer's Choice award.  She chose to use a beautiful print from Valerie Wells' Cocoon line.  It was a great choice.

    • For the "Most Transformed" prize, I have chosen Tiffany's quilt.  She used a novelty print with aboriginal masks, and the kaleidoscopes she created were really interesting.  Congratulations!

    • Both of our winners have been notified by email, and should be getting their prizes shortly.  Congratulations to you both.  I hope everyone who participated had as much fun as I did.

      Also....

I would like to finally show the quilt I made to test out the Giant Chevron pattern for my friend, Jess at The Elven Garden.  This is her first pattern release!   The pattern itself is SUPER beginner friendly, and also precut friendly (a layer cake can be used).

As you can see, I chose to use solids in the pattern and then I quilted the daylights out of it.  Jess's original quilt for this pattern uses a rainbow of prints on a black background and was published in the July Quilters Companion Magazine.  It is really lovely.  She also has several of the other pattern tester's quilts posted on her blog right now in case you want to see this pattern in action.

Jess is incredibly talented and I can't wait to see what she does next.

      Finally, the obligatory backing photo..

Jess has also been so generous to provide 2 copies of her new Giant Chevron pattern for me to give away to celebrate its release.  Please leave a comment below telling me what colors you would use to make this pattern.   Also, please make sure you are not a "No reply" blogger.  If in doubt, leave your email address in the comment itself like this, youremailaddress(at)domain(dot)com, so I can get in touch with you.  I still get a TON of no-reply comments.  I will randomly choose 2 winners next Thursday, November 21st.

      This Giveaway is Now Closed!

      Thanks for reading,

      Jen

      2. Okay - I have so many things to say about this post.
1 - THANK YOU so much for choosing my OBW quilt! It was so fun to make and I have no idea what I would have done with that mask fabric otherwise. ;)
2 - Congratulations to Marci. Her quilt was my personal favorite, the colors are gorgeous.
3 - No worries about taking a hiatus! You have no obligation to us - live your life the way you feel like it should be lived at the moment. :)
4 - I LOVE the chevron quilt. Your quilting is amazing and it's a really fun pattern. If I were to make one, I'd have to use some girly fabrics (Noteworthy and Notting Hill come to mind first - or maybe some Kate Spain. Or Ombre fabrics! Wouldn't that be cool!). I'm tired of making things for boys.

      4. Thanks so much for everyone that voted for me, I truly appreciate it!!! Congrats to Tiffany, she really did transform that fabric! Thanks for hosting such a great quilt along! As far as the chevron quilt, it really is beautiful and I have to say that back shot shows off your quilting so much, it is amazing! What fabric would I use to make one? I have a layer cake of Bonnie and Camille fabric - Vintage Modern...that would be cool, so that plus some matching solids.

      9. Ohh all the quilts are such eye candy! The chevron is great, it would work in any color. I might do a neutral palate with a pop of yellow? Or a berry and blue palate?

      13. Wow, I was impressed with the "front" of your quilt and definitely fell in love when I saw the back. Beautiful design, great use of fabrics and absolutely spectacular free-motion quilting. I think I love this design as it really provides excellent space to show off FMQ.

As far as colors, I'm sure this design would look great in any color palette. As I do enjoy making charity quilts (99% of what I make), I'm also drawn to this design to make a quilt for Operation Homefront using a similar color palette as you created.

      17. I love your version! I have seen Jess' pattern on her blog and thought I'd do it in a range of blues with just a smidge of white (all geometric prints) but after seeing yours, I'm not sure...

      20. What a beautiful quilt! I had seen the pattern on other blogs bit the way you did it really caught my attention. I think i'd have to make it in limes and purples...zing!

      21. Definitely would take your lead and do a patriotic theme! Love the red, white and blue you have. Your back is absolutely gorgeous! As far as apologizing for not blogging it is not necessary considering I haven't blogged in months either. Life gets in the way with family and work and they are the most important people to apologize to when your not around. Still sewing but at a much slower pace! Thanks for the chance!
