Boots are made for walkin' - Building Blocks Tuesday

I am caught up on my Star of Africa Bee blocks!  Well, I still have one more to do, but it isn't due until next week.

Sana is collecting blocks that have to do with "Home is where the Heart is".  Her husband used to live in DC so she asked me to make another cherry blossom block.  It was harder to duplicate than I thought.  Of course, I took the opportunity to add a some ripples on the water.

Tina at Holy Scrap is collecting shoe blocks.  I had a difficult time choosing my shoe.  Sure there are plenty of shoe companies that originated here the states, but many of them either used designs that were invented elsewhere, or they are now mostly owned by foreign companies.  The few shoes that were left, just didn't interest me much, until I thought of the shoes of the American West.  We didn't really invent boots, but we did adapt the style into western wear.  Here is my boot - very similar to some ridiculously expensive ones I saw on Country Outfitter that I would love to own myself.  Perhaps if we delay the house hunt another year.

Boot for Tina

I was going to use that rattlesnake fabric to make the actual boot, but it just wasn't playing nicely with the reverse applique I wanted to do in turquoise.  So background fabric it became.  And yes, I love that dark brown fabric.  I may find a way to incorporate it into all my Star of Africa blocks.  Just kidding.

So what have you been working on this week?

Link up your fabulous blocks.  You put a lot of hard work into them - show them off!  This free linky will stay open for a whole week.  And spread the word!

Inspirational Sunday (3) - via the 2013 Road to California Quilt Show

The Tale of Two Quilts!

"Ruffled Roses" by Sue Glass of Redondo Beach

This one is called "Ruffled Roses" by Sue Glass of Redondo Beach (hey, that's where I live!), quilted by Linda Crane.  The Design is from the 2011 BOM on the Quilt Show.com (patterns by Sue Garman).

"McTangerine Rose" by Lynn Droege of Overland Park, KS

This is one is called "McTangerine Rose" by Lynn Droege of Overland Park, KS, and quilted by Lisa Sipes.

Look familiar?  It is the same pattern from the 2011 BOM by Sue Garman!  How different each quilt looks based on the color and fabric choices each quilter used.  It just goes to show you how individual choices can really make a completely different quilt!

Thanks for stopping by today,

Jen

March Fresh Sewing Day

I frequently get mixed up, calling this "March" Fresh Sewing Day, when it is February's projects.  My mind wants to correlate the word "fresh" with the month ahead but then I am looking at old stuff.  Silly rabbit!

February mosaic

1. February Lucky Star BOM, 2. Blue OBW w/seagull, 3. Simply Solids - February, 4. Make it Modern for Renae, 5. Simply Solids March, 6. For my Valentine, 7. Discontinuity 1, 8. Feb. Make it Modern bee block for Kelleigh, 9. clamshells WIP

So there is February's mosaic.  Not too shabby!  A bunch of bee blocks, but a couple finished quilts too!  And I did finish up that clamshell project, I just haven't taken a pic yet.  I am already looking at the month ahead though.

And since you have already seen pictures of all those projects already.  Here are a few pics you haven't seen:

Lizzy the Ham

Clearly, Lizzy is the ham of the family!

I hope you will come back on Sunday to see some more cool quilts from the Road to California Quilt show, and again on Tuesday for Building Blocks Tuesday.  I just finished up the stitching on, not one, but 2, blocks for my Star of Africa bee.

Any quilty plans for the weekend?

Thanks for reading today,

Jen
