Lucky Star flimsy - Building Blocks Tuesday

Lucky Star 2013 flimsy

I don't have any new blocks to share today, but I do have a set of them that have been a long time coming!  Here is the flimsy I just finished up this weekend with all my 2013 Lucky Star BOM's.  I finished up the last block ages ago, but as it is with me, it took me a while to get around to putting them together.  No doubt it will take me another few months to get it basted and ready to be quilted.

I have a couple of non-block related questions for you this week.  I admit that I have been very distracted from blog reading, and blog writing of late.  I'm just wondering if that is something we are all going through (especially considering Instagram's popularity and ease of use), or if it is just me.  I've noticed a steady decline in interaction on some of the popular blogs I read - I assumed that the decline here was my own fault for not posting as frequently, etc.  So, I am wondering.....are you still reading blogs?  Are you just not commenting as frequently?  Are you participating in QAL's and swaps, etc. over on Instagram instead?  Inquiring minds would like to know.  Thanks!

What blocks have you working on?  I would love to see.  Link up your fabulous blocks.  You put a lot of hard work into them - show them off!  This free linky will stay open until the first Monday of next month, but I will repost it every Tuesday until a new month starts.

Quilter in the Closet

Rules:

1) Please link up only to the page in your blog showing your wonderful blocks, not just the blog homepage.  Flickr pictures are also OK.
2) Make sure to put your blog name as the description so people know where they are going or the name of your block!
3) Please grab my button and post it in your blog post or sidebar.
4) Visit other linky participants!

Thanks for reading!

Jen

  1. I have a full time job and read quilting blogs during my lunch hour. In the two years I've done this, I've seen an uptick in book reviews (everyone makes a block from a quilt book or a complete top), etc. I find this extremely boring. However, I completely understand where the book writer is coming from and I don't blame him/her for trying to get the word out. I just generally hit delete instead of reading the blog email. I enjoy almost everything else about blog reading. Especially when bloggers post about serious topics (trademark/copyright infringement, etc .) I do think instagram has taken a lot of steam out of blog writing and I think the bar has been set so high for blog writers that instead of just whipping out a post in 10 minutes, it takes forever. I wish this wasn't so. Thank you for what you do.

  2. I don't do instagram, FB, or any other forms of social media; blogging is it for me. I'm about 50/50 on whether I leave a comment of not. Sometimes I read posts very early in the morning while sipping my first cuppa, and my brain just isn't ready to dialog yet! I seldom participate in BOMs because I've already got so many projects lined up and because I travel and have trouble keeping up. I started a fun BOM last year and left my residence for the winter with it only half completed. When I returned, I couldn't finish it because the designer wrote a book and took all the measurements off of her site. This really annoyed me and I guess it helped turn me off to BOMs.

  3. Life has suddenly gotten busy--and, to be honest, dreary--here at our house with illness and loss. Reading blogs is a lovely escape, a little break in which I am reminded of beautiful quilty possibilities and connect with other people. But I likely don't comment often enough, certainly not as much as before. I'm not checking Instagram, though--nor Facebook, only occasionally pinning things. Blogs are so much more satisfying.

  4. I don't have instagram. I enjoy reading blog posts. I like seeing all the quilty stuff. I don't usually comment.

  5. I do think Instagram has impacted blog writing - in this world of instant gratification it's easy to post a pic and a quick comment and keep on going. My hope is that by integrating Instagram it will drive traffic to our blogs so people can read more detailed info about a pic I've posted on Instagram. I love to read blogs, see all the great work and be inspired by others creativity. I try to always comment but sometimes I don't have anything new to add to what others have already said. I hope people don't give up on blogging; I think it's a fantastic platform! :)

  6. Hi Jen, I love the quilt, really soothing colours! I haven't hook on IG for months, it didn't do anything for me, and not a fan of flickr. And I had to restore my phone and can't remember my FB password so I only go there occasionally on my PC now. I check blogs through Bloglovin, and try and leave a comment even if it's only a short one, although sometimes I just mark them as read as I'm too far behind. I notice I'm getting fewer comments, maybe my posts aren't as interesting?

  7. What a pretty top! Love the color combo. About blogging - many people have an ebb and flow to their posting and their participation. It's just natural since some times in our lives demand more of us than others. For example, until last week, I went through several months where I had very little time for quilting and even less for blogging (or any social media), since I was hard at work on the crunch time of my Master's thesis.

I still greatly prefer blogs to Instagram. Like majorly. I like the better substance, the willingness of people to share how they've handled given techniques and the problem-solving they've done. I also really enjoy the little snippets of their lives that they include at times. If I just want images, I go to Pinterest. Instagram feels to me somewhat . . . hmm. . . it's hard to explain. It seems like people get too carried away with needing to show every second of what they're doing just to show it? That's a very rough explanation of the feeling I've started to get there. There's no real sharing - no real communicating - mostly just exhibiting ourselves. I don't know why it makes me feel that way?

But of course, there are good uses for it, definitely. Like it's terrific for snapping shots of fabrics, ideas, and in-process things when you have a distant costumer that you need to run something by.

  8. I haven't even joined the IG party yet and no sure when I will. I much prefer blogging and although I don't comment as often as I'd like to, there isn't enough time in the day, I do try to comment when I can.

  9. Beautiful quilt top!
I enjoy reading blogs. I don't do Instagram, Facebook or blog my own work. I comment periodically...but always enjoy reading about other people's work, life, questions etc.

  10. I am having the same difficulty in finding time to blog...love to do it but it seems life and a full time job gets in the way. I am not on instragram nor do I think I will. I really love reading the various blogs. Yours is fairly new to me - I am sure I found you thru a linky party or another blog site link. I agree with most of the comments that others have made. I have found that the blogworld is generous with sharing ideas. My blog at 2dogsstudio.us is my way to connect with others. It is alot of work but well worth it. The one thing I haven't figure out is how to not be a 'reply blogger'. micki@2dogsstudio.us.

I had to shut off comments for a long time because I was just getting spammed. I'm going to try moderation for a while and see if that helps. Please leave me a comment.
