15 Shades of Gray - Building Blocks Tuesday

15 shades of gray modern mini

It's not exactly a block this Tuesday, but I've made another modern mini.  I'm calling this one "15 Shades of Gray".  I pulled every solid gray color I had, and added a couple of black and snow pluses too.  It is amazing how much diversity gray has - there are brownish grays (like Mushroom), and blueish grays.  That one that looks light blue is actually clearly a silver color when you put it next to an actual light blue.  They all look gray until you put them next to each other and then you can really see what other color they have mixed in.  This was a fun exercise.

As you can see it is even basted and SID'd, I just need to figure out how else I am going to quilt this one.  Any suggestions?

What blocks have you working on?  I would love to see.  Link up your fabulous blocks.  You put a lot of hard work into them - show them off!  This free linky will stay open until the first Monday of next month, but I will repost it every Tuesday until a new month starts.

  2. Hi Jen,
great job on the mini! I should try a few more of those, they are fantastic to try something out. Quilting is I agree with Heidi a toughfy, maybe diagonal 1"grid?

  3. Love this! It turned out so well! My sister made a quilt that was all black fabrics and the colours that emerged were fantastic and interesting.

My instinct when quilting (and it usually is stymied by my skill level) is to do the opposite. Lots of right angles would lead me to think swirls and zero straight lines. Actually, it might be really cool to break it into the chunks were the fabrics are lighter together and darker and turn those chunks into feathers.
